This is a comment that continues the dubious theme of my last post.
I had been maintaining that the large effigies of female genetalia paraded down the streets in Japanese fertility festivals were perhaps evidence that there are places in the world where iconic or artistic representations of the feminine reproductives aren't regarded as frightening and inappropriate. A little more research in to the Japanese fertility festivals reveals that they might be taken as evidence *supporting* the theory of a gynophobic world, rather than the reverse. Turns out that the festival revolves around a classic vagina dentata myth involving a princess who has a demon living in her vagina... A common enough complaint... (“I’m sorry your honor, but sometimes it is very difficult to ignore the demon in my vagina, and well...”)
Anyway, so the story goes, every time the princess was married off, the young princely groom would die on their wedding night when the cervix dwelling demon would bite off his toodle stick. As you can imagine, despite her wealth, beauty and political connections, it wasn’t too long before the princess was off the ‘A’ list of marriage prospects. So the king offered a reward to any man from any class, however humble, who could, a-hem, ‘defeat’ the demon.
Seeing an opportunity for upward mobility, a humble tradesman intrepidly volunteers to marry the princess. Our hero, however, has the presence of mind to take precautions, and cleverly fashions a metal phallus and smuggles it into the bedroom on their wedding night. Here, the exact details are sketchy, but in the end the demon breaks his teeth on the tradesman's custom made dildo and is vanquished. This of course leaves us all wondering how this poor woman gets along with a toothless demon living in her coochie, but then myths always have this effect on our overly techincal modern minds. Anyhow, the tradesman gets his substantial reward, becomes a prince and he and the princess have lots of babies.
Just goes to show you what a plucky guy from the streets can do if he believes in himself and has a penis of steel.
